Let's talk about PLUR(R). We stand at a critical time for humanity and the planet. It's both dire and yet hopeful if we can start to make different choices. My job is to get conversations going, make you think, inspire you to join all the artists and engineers that are trying to shift our current methods to ones that will bring forth better balance, that take ecology and humanitarian issues into mind.
What I would like to bring up is something I would like to call "Project Parachord". Parachord comes in all colors, and as you can see, has as resemblance to kandi when tied into more intricate patterns with different colors of chord.
Electronic Music Alliance (EMA) is partners with a few different "Disaster Relief" organizations. Parachord could be helpful in disasters. It is super strong. The military uses parachord for a variety of purposes. Check out the ways parachord can save a life.
I am always looking ahead. There will be disasters in the future. There are every year. As the climate continues to change, we are scheduled for even more climate related disasters than "normal". So I think we should be proactive and consider what we can do when disaster strikes. Not everyone has money to give. Not everyone will be able to go to the site to help with clean-up (which takes years anyway). So let's channel our creative talents into a project that is similar to kandi making; a gift that would still represent PLUR and to people in need. Project Parachord. Make disaster relief parachord "kandi" and send it to EMA to disberse to our partner organizations, Music for Relief, HANDS, and LAHAF. Or keep them and distribute them to keep your community prepared for when disaster strikes.
I have been "critical" of kandi in the past. I love it, don't get me wrong. I'm actually wearing a kandi cuff in the profile picture I use for this blog. I don't think it's any worse than many many many other things in this world that are not recyclable, made from oil, and of a toxic disposable nature that won't break down in the environment for over 1000 years. I love the colors. I love the intention. I love that people are inspired and channel their creativity into something meant to symbolize love (and peace, and unity, and respect).
Is parachord biodegradable? I don't think so, it's made from nylon (which is a plastic). It's not hemp. However, if we are going to give some of our time into creating something that won't break down, why not make something that is happy looking and also extremely useful?
Parachord supplies are more expensive than traditional kandi supplies, so what to do? Let EMA help. We may sponsor your start-up supplies. If you love doing it, we will coach you on how to expand the project using our Empower the Scene campaign.
This is a way to make a bigger impact doing something you already do. Contact me directly if interested: email@example.com
